About
I'm Ben Ford, a web developer in New Zealand, and I run. I'm training for Queenstown this November, and next year I'll be in the ballot for Sydney and the drawing for New York. Follow me on Strava.
The site started with New York. I went looking for a clear map of the course, its elevation and a GPX file, and couldn't find the three in one place.
So I started working out how to show all of it properly, for every big marathon. It was also a good excuse to learn a lot more about them.
What's here
26 of the world's big marathons are written up, 24 of them with a measured elevation profile. Each page has the course on a map, how to get a place, what race morning looks like, the course records and up to thirty-one years of race-day weather.
Every fact on a race page has a source and the date it was last checked, listed at the foot of the page. Before a page goes up, a separate check goes through it line by line against the organiser, World Athletics and the official results.
How it's paid for
It isn't, yet. There are no advertisers, no affiliate links and no arrangements with any race. If that changes, this page will say so first.
